What are aerial silks?
Aerial silks, also known as aerial fabric, tissu, and/or chiffon, is an apparatus made of synthetic nylon fabric with the center of the fabric attached to a rig point from the ceiling. The act of aerial silks involves a person performing poses, wraps, and drops in the air on the silk. Aerial dance and acrobatics is an art form that is incredibly challenging, exhilarating, and beautiful all at the same time. Becoming a master aerialist is a process that takes much practice, determination, and skill. Every person is different and will move at a different progression rate depending on his/her current strength level and amount of practice time he/she puts in.
Are aerial silks just for performers?
Aerial silks are for everyone, and are a great way to get in shape and have fun doing it. Aerial fitness is becoming tremendously more popular because it offers gym goers an opportunity to learn a new and challenging skill, get in great shape, and have tons of fun all while exercising.
I have zero upper body strength. Can I still do pole fitness or aerial silks?
Yes! Many people cannot even do a pull-up before starting their first aerial fitness class. Individuals at all strength and fitness levels can succeed in aerial fitness and should not allow any perceived physical limitation keep them from trying it out. Beginner classes start low to the ground and incorporate the specific exercises needed to gain the strength to lift, climb, and fly!

WHAT PACKAGE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR A BEGINNER?

What should I wear to classes involving a silk?
Tight fitted clothing is preferred when working with the silk so it does not get in the way or tangled up when learning new moves. It is best to wear leggings, yoga pants, or tights that at least go below the knee as well as a tight-fitting shirt with sleeves (short sleeved or long sleeved) or leotard. Please do not wear any lotions or oils as it may ruin the fabric and will cause you to be very slippery. Please do not wear any rings or jewelry because it can snag the nylon fabric of the silk.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR SHORT SHORTS AND A BRA TO POLE CLASS?
Nope! We want you to feel comfortable and confidant in class- you are absolutely welcome to wear longer shorts and a tank top if that is your preference. Friction with your skin does make some moves easier, so try not to wear basketball shorts. Booty shorts and bras welcome too!
DO YOU HAVE YOGA MATS?
Yes! We have plenty of yoga mats available for you to use while in class. You are always welcome to bring your own of course! If you do bring your own mat we offer yoga mat punch cards at the front desk, have your card punched 10 times and earn a free credit to apply to your account!
What can I do to make myself stronger in order to make faster progress on the silks and/or pole?
Simply coming to aerial silks classes on a regular basis will allow your body to naturally gain the needed strength to do more advanced moves. The more classes you come to per week, the faster you will gain strength! Additionally, any kind of supplemental workout will be helpful, which is why we offer a plethora of group fitness classes.
I'm 2nd in line on the waitlist... will I be able to get into the class? How does the waitlist work?
Our classes have various caps for the amount of students they can accommodate. Some classes have smaller capacities for safety and space reasons. If a class is full MindBody will allow you to waitlist. If someone registered for the class cancels it will alert the first person on the waitlist via email so that the spot may be filled. If you’ve been on the waitlist check your email to see if you’ve been added or feel free to call the studio and we will let you know if there have been any cancellations.

We allow visitors to watch the last 10 minutes of class during free play time.

We would love for you to take video of yourself doing a new move, but we ask that you please refrain from taking videos of our instructors teaching.
ARE THERE SAFETY CONCERNS WITH AERIAL FITNESS?
Yes, there is always safety concern for doing anything aerially, which is why safety is our number one priority. The silks themselves can hold over 2,000 pounds of weight. At Bella Forza Fitness, students must be 100% comfortable doing tricks and movements low to the ground first before ever attempting a move high in the air. All instructors are professionally trained in spotting techniques, and thick gymnastics mats are used underneath the silks in every leveled aerial class.
WHAT IF I BARELY EXCEED THE WEIGHT LIMIT? IS IT OKAY TO STILL TAKE CLASS?
We have a weight limit on all aerial classes for safety reasons. Please respect the weight limit. If your weight fluctuates and surpasses the weight limit take the opportunity to cross train with our group fitness classes to help you get back into the groove! Weight limits are:
Pole classes: 210 lbs
All other Aerial classes: 250 lbs (including silks, lyra, and aerial fitness: e.g. Aerial Yoga, Aerial Strength and Power, etc.

Yes! We sell various grip aids for both pole and silks. They are available in our lobby along with lots of great Bella swag! There is a price list near our retail area.
Is bruising normal?
Totally normal. Silks and pole both involve the fascia (your skin) getting used to pressure. The body adjusts to this with time and after taking consistent classes you’ll find that you won’t bruise as often (if at all).
Should I take Advil before class?
We do not advocate taking medications before class unless prescribed by a doctor. You should talk with your physician about what is safe to take before and after activity.
I'm just getting over a cold... can I take class?
No. We ask anyone who may be contagious (onset, during, and day after) to please refrain from coming to the studio to prevent the spread of germs. With so much shared equipment this keeps the studio healthy and clean.
Or... I threw up yesterday but feel mostly better can I still come take class?
Again, we ask you to use your best judgement and refrain from coming to the studio if you are at all sick. If you didn’t go to work or school - that is sick =)
I get really dizzy/nauseous when I spin or go upside down... is that normal? Will it go away or get better?
Some people do experience this and for most it does go away. Anyone can go upside down with a bit of practice. Spinning is an art unto itself and sometimes takes a bit longer to get the hang of. The good news is, YES, it does get better and eventually it does go away.
MINDBODY KEEPS SENDING ME NOTIFICATIONS AFTER I TAKE CLASSES... IS THAT NORMAL?
Yes. MindBody will ask for feedback after your first class, it will also allow you when your package is running out soon.
WHAT ARE THESE LATE CHARGES FOR?!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU WASH THE SILK?
We typically wash our silks once a month, sometimes more frequently (like during summer when bacteria and smells are stronger). We also wash the silks if they’ve been exposed to anything unusual.
IF I HAVE TAKEN AERIAL CLASSES BEFORE, WHERE SHOULD I START?
Simply let us know and we will consult with you on a one-on-one basis in order to place you in the leveled class that is best suited for you.
